You know, you see them everywhere. Talking on TV, writing online. Who are these people? They seem to feel as if they have some sort of legitimacy just by holding that mic up against their lips, but who is to say we should listen? Elections? Money?
In a Democratic society, people listen to their leaders because they have formed some sort of legitimacy with them, whether it is charisma, rule of law, tradition or what have you. This sort of legitimacy is backed by choice. That choice comes with - in a formal democratic system - a vote. People vote their leaders in and - in some cases - out.
The Elitist system so planned and conceived by the Constitution is based on democratic philosophy. People are listened to because the people who do the listening to chose to listen to them. But, because of the impossible or near-impossible feat of unanimous agreement, this election is almost always dependent on majorities. So our elitist system is run by majority-ruled democracy under Majoritarian politics, whereby the opinion of the majority so rules.
A simple example of this is the 1992 Presidential Election in the United States: Bush v. Clinton. Because Bush came out unpopular after his quick withdrawal from the Persian Gulf, he lost to the liberal and "clean" Bill Clinton - because the People wanted Bill Clinton. But time and time again people have to listen to a leader because the majority wants to listen to him or her--even if that person does not. This is majoritarian politics.
However, there is no alternative to Majoritarianism that keeps with the Democratic ideal. As the saying goes, "No system is perfect." In this case, that is true and it just can't be fixed...there is no way unless, again, democracy is severed.
So what's the connection between democracy and elitism? The idea is that not everyone can be well-versed in the study of Government, or Economics or other areas of interest. Therefore, we use a system of Deomcracy to put people of interest and popular support into places of authority to maintain a fair and rational functioning of society. But, not surprisingly, this system has been exploited to create a reign of terror.
This Looming Leviathan began to terrorize our Country and its people, eroding piece by piece the fabric that has kept it together for so long. This Leviathan suggests that we listen to people that the majority does not necessarily approve. People only it seems to approve.
I can't say this without actually saying it, so I'll come out and say it. This Leviathan is none other than the "invisible hand."
And this goes back to Elitism.
The idea of competition - or rather fair competition - is to allow each "player" to have an equal chance at the objective. This simple rule is disregarded by how elitism is applied to the Economy.
The truth is that there is not a fair sense of competition between all the players. The multi-billionaire is less affected by competition than a poverty-stricken Minority boy from New York City. And the worst part is, despite how much the former exploits the latter, the boy seems to listen to his oppressor. This system has created double talk. It has created robots.
After all, there is absolutely no reason for the boy to listen to the billionaire. He has nothing more than a few other pieces of green paper. Sure it may be founded it reason, but this system has converted to a blind following by brainwashed individuals. Yet, there is a rising population that is affected and insulted by these policies. A portion that has taken a stance - a minority, so call because it was apparantely. A minority that is repressed by the majority. And so the system is a full circle. Majoritarian rule without Democracy...what is the whole point, then?
