In one of my latest blog posts, I went on a rant about how undemocratic protest and political activism have become because of the underlying Capitalist forces in our Country, like spending and comfort. However, one state, Wisconsin, has totally thrashed my theories out of the water. Remember earlier this year, Wisconsin was the first state that dared to siege its State House and demand in part for Unions. Now, the State Senate is about to face an unprecedented number of recall elections, that endanger the Republic majority in the Senate and the Republican Governor's policies. Wisconsin is the one and the only example needed to show that, yes, America is a Capitalist country...but first a Democracy, that is Americans WILL test their "leaders'" accountability. After all, you cannot change a tiger's stripes and, if you could, it wouldn't be the same potent beast it once was. Our democracy is what makes us strong and attempting to imitate the Authoritarian bullshit that is so-well-disguised as Communism in our biggest Economic rival will only lead to failure as attempted political and social reform led to the fastest and largest collapse of a Nation...that was once the USSR.
(Reuters) - Months of political rancor and a tsunami of special interest spending come to a head on Tuesday with historic recall votes for Wisconsin state lawmakers that some see as a pointer for the 2012 election.
Control of the Wisconsin state Senate lies in the balance in the largest number of recall elections in U.S. history, which are also being seen as a referendum on newly elected Republican Governor Scott Walker's conservative policies."I think to a certain extent it is almost a dry run," said Mordecai Lee, a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee government affairs professor and former Democratic lawmaker.
"It is almost like an exhibition game or the preseason opener for them."
The high stakes fight has drawn $25 million of spending by special interest groups from both sides aimed at swaying the nine recall races, a nonpartisan watchdog group has said.
Victories for Democrats could bolster efforts to launch a recall of Walker next year, while Republican wins could freeze that bid in its tracks and give the national party momentum toward defeating President Barack Obama in 2012. More>
